 In the field of literature, prominent awards that can be won by Indian citizens.


International Awards
1. Nobel Prize in Literature(1901~) 
Highest literature prize of world

Awarded by Swedish Academy(Stockholm, Sweden) 

Eligibility- no bar on citizenship and language

Prize- Gold Medal + Diploma bearing a citation + Cash prize.


Foreign Awards(UK) 

2. Booker Prize(1969~) 

Awarded by Crankstart group (since 2019) 

Eligibility- English novel published in UK Or Ireland

Prize- £50,000


3. International Booker Prize(2005~) 

Awarded by Crankstart group (since 2019) 

Eligibility- translated English novel published in UK Or Ireland

Prize- £50,000

Many Indians won Booker prize, but the only Indian to win International Booker prize was Geetanjali Shree for his book Ret Samadhi(Tomb of sands- Daisy Rockwell) in 2022.

4. Jnanpith Award(1961~) 

India’s highest award in literature

Awarded by Government of India

Eligibility- Indian Citizen + 8th schedule languages of Indian Constitution(22 languages), English

Prize- Rs 11 Lakh + Goddess Saraswati statue(1 winner) 


5. Sahitya Academy Award(1954~) 

Awarded by Sahitya Academy Delhi(Govt institution) 

Eligibility- Indian Citizen + 8th schedule languages of Indian Constitution(22 languages) + English language + Rajasthani

Prize- Rs 1 Lakh + A plaque(Multiple winners) 


6. Yuva Puraskar(2011~) 

Awarded by Sahitya Academy Delhi

Eligibility- Indian Citizen(below 35 years) for his/her 1st book + 8th schedule languages of Indian Constitution(22 languages) + English language + 

Award- Rs 50,000 + a copper plaque

7. Bal Sahitya Puraskar

Awarded by Sahitya Academy Delhi

Eligibility- Indian Citizen + 8th schedule languages of Indian Constitution(22 languages) + English language + Rajasthani + children literature

Prize- Rs 1 Lakh + A plaque(Multiple winners) 

8. Basha Samman

Awarded by Sahitya Academy Delhi

Eligibility- Indian Citizen + language contribution in other than 24 language(22 scheduled languages + English + Rajasthani)

Women Personality in Pre Independence Era

  Women Personality in Pre Independence Era Rani Velu Nachiyar(1730-1796)-  She was the first Indian queen(Sivaganga estate) to wage war with the East India Company in India. She regained her kingdom after defeating EICo. with the help of Hyder Ali and many mores. In Tamil she is regarded as Veeramangai .  She was a scholar of French, English, and Urdu languages. Savitribai Phule(1831-1897)-  She raised her voice against caste and gender discrimination. In 1848 she started school in Pune for girl education. She died while serving the Plague affected people.  Pandita Ramabai Sarasvati(1858-1922)-  1st woman to be awarded the titles of Pandita as a Sanskrit scholar and Sarasvati after being examined by the faculty of the University of Calcutta. In 1882, she presented the issue of women education to Hunter Commission . She founded Arya Mahila Samaj(Pune, 1882) . In the same year she wrote Stri Dharma Niti(Morals for Women) book and in 1883 she moved to Britain where she embraced Christia
